Meet Shayna
"Rejected by my own family and forced to leave home, I fought through pain, loneliness, and societal stigma to embrace my true self. Today, as a proud and educated transgender woman, I dedicate my life to ensuring no one else from my community has to fight for the dignity, love, and care they deserve."
I was born in New Delhi, in a world that never truly saw me. From a young age, I knew I was different, but being a transgender woman in a middle-class family meant facing rejection instead of love.
My family never accepted me, and the pain of their disapproval was unbearable. At 18, I made the heartbreaking decision to leave home, stepping into an unforgiving world alone.
But even in my darkest moments, I held onto education—it became my refuge, my strength. I fought to complete my studies, embraced my true self, and began my gender transition despite society’s cruelty. Every step—hormone therapy, surgery, and the constant battle for dignity—was a fight to exist.
But my pain turned into purpose. I dedicated my life to helping others like me, working in LGBTQIA+ healthcare and social work, ensuring no one feels as lost and abandoned as I once did. Today, at Ally Heart, I stand strong—not just for myself, but for every person who has ever been told they don’t belong. Because we do. We always have. And we always will.
